Run 118/Week 30 Recap

I leave tomorrow for a work trip, so this was my last run for the week. I'll take a few weeks more like this. Easy runs. Just working on getting miles ticked off but not pushing the pace. We'll see if I can keep myself from pushing too hard. I know I need to recover still, but I really feel great. Today was a great day for a run. It was a nice cool mid-morning for my daughter and I.

Run 117

It's been really nice to just run and let my legs go at whatever pace they decide. I can still tell my body is recovering, so I'm not trying to push the pace too much. Plus, I know about what my pace needs to be to get my time goal, and this slower pace is faster than I would need to go. I'm not out to break any land speed records. I just want to do my part for the money I raised for Charity:Water.

Run 116

I ran this morning not knowing how far I'd go. My body told me I was okay for an easy pace over my normal route, but other things I've read said I shouldn't go this far just yet. I listened to my body and I'm glad I did. The fact that I was able to do 5.8 just a few days after a marathon, at a faster than marathon pace, is pretty good, I think. When I get back up to speed and do some longer distances again, I want to set a pace goal of somewhere around 8:20-30 and see if I can maintain that for a marathon. That, in and of itself, will cut off around 20 minutes from my time. Ultimately, though, I want to just keep running.

Run 115

Tried this as a recovery run. I feel really good! My legs feel strong, but going down stairs still hurts a little. It was my quads going up those hills the last 6 miles of the marathon that gave me trouble, so I suppose that is to be expected. Went with my daughter, who fell asleep about halfway through, but I decided I'd better not push past my initial route like I normally would. Used my "new-to-me" smartphone to map my route, so it's more exact (and a little longer) than just mapping it out online.

Run 114/Week 29 Recap

My first marathon! I felt I could have finished a little faster, but I'm not going to complain. I met some awesome people. I ran up some short, but steep, hills (all in the last 6 miles). It rained for a short time (again, in the last 6 miles). I met a guy who has run Boston for the last 4 years and ran with him for the first 18 miles. He was right across the street from the 2nd bomb that went off. Crazy. I met another lady who runs ultras (50k in a few weeks and a 100 miler coming up in the fall). Also crazy. And I really like these people and I will be running more of these. I guess that makes me crazy too! :)

Run 113

Did the last of my taper today. I actually had a really hard time getting into a groove as I was running, which makes me really nervous for Saturday... I just want to finish well. I don't want to limp across the finish line with my life flashing before my eyes. I want to run well, run strong, and finish at my potential. I guess now I just need to control my eating and maybe I can do it...

Run 112

Starting off the week of the marathon, I'm taking it easy. Did a middle of the morning jog with my daughter. It was nice, but a little humid. Kinda glad we only went as far as we did. I'm mentally preparing for the race on Saturday. I'm nervous, but I know I'm physically ready. Now it's all a mind game.

Run 111/Week 28 Recap

I was originally going to do a group trail run, but there wasn't much interest and then the threat of rain called for a delay and then cancellation. I went out anyway. Shorter than my original plan, but I did get caught up in that rain. Which conveniently started hard about 10 minutes in, not at the original time. I'm annoyed by it, but if it was easy to stay dedicated to running, more people would do it. After enough of these "almost" group runs, I maybe should have made a "no show" tag! Haha!

Run 109

I am started to getting a little unsettled about running a marathon next weekend. I suppose all people who run one get a little jittery. I know I can run it, but I feel like maybe I could use another month or so. I've paid the fee already, though, so I'm going to do it and I'll be fine, I'm sure. Today, though, I did a fasting run, which was mistake. About 3/4 of the way, I suddenly hit empty on my gas tank. Rough 15 minutes.

Run 107/Week 27 Recap

I set out today with a time goal. I wanted to run a little over an hour. This week and next, in preparation for my marathon, I'm cutting down my miles to have fresh legs for the race. I decided I'd run for 35 minutes and try to make that my halfway point. I also decided to run without a map strictly charted out. It was fun to run that way! I did some trail running mixed with road running. It was a nice break from my normal route.

Run 104

It was just a nice day to run with a stroller. Not too hot, a little bit of a breeze, and plenty of nice sunshine. I ran in my tri-top from my triathalons last year and it worked great! There's a zipper about 3/4 of the way down the front, so it can offer some cool breeze. It is tight, so there's no extra rubbing on my skin. It has some pockets on the back that I could use for gummies or something like that. I may have to use it in my marathon. At the very least, I'll run in it a few more times before that to get a good feel for it.
