Run 103/Week 26 Week

I didn't need to do a run, but I was camping with some friends and I was the only without with a fishing license, so I did a run. This was really more of a recovery run for yesterday. Didn't try to push it, and I couldn't, really, because I didn't have my Nike+ or landmarks to judge distance from. Nice gravel road run, which is similar to a trail run, I guess. It was raining, but it was fun anyway. I love camping and being outside is one of the main reasons I enjoy running as much as I do. It was up near Highlandville, IA, which is not too far from Decorah. Beautiful part of the state!

This week was a big week. I took a break from the initial marathon training program, which I think threw a wrench into this 20 mile run. Maybe I should have gone back and restarted the program when my initial marathon date didn't work out. Lesson learned.

Run 102

Woot! 20 miles. My longest run ever! This will be my longest run until my race on July 20th. I did 2 ten-mile out-and-backs, which was hard. I don't think I did nutrition very well and at mile 17 I hit the wall harder than I have hit it in recent past. I will have to do more research on that. I thought, maybe, that I would have a friend join me on the 2nd half, but that didn't pan out. Also, I had a headwind on the 1st and 3rd quarters, which was hard to do after a few minutes break to grab water. The last quarter, however, the tailwind that I thought I could sound on died. Ugh. All that complaining, it was great to finish that long run. Now a few weeks off of long runs until the 20th.

Run 101

Just an average run. I did swallow my pride and run with my shirt off for a while because I was really sweaty. Like, really sweaty. I don't handle humidity very well, so I may have to do this more often. It felt great to give my torso uninterrupted wind to cool down, but I'm not exactly trim. I lost about 65 pounds a year ago or so, but that doesn't mean I have any kind of muscle tone on my upper body. I guess the unfortunate people in the cars driving by will just have to take glances away from my hairy, gleaming white body. Enjoy that image for your day! Haha!

Wow! 100 runs already! I ran without socks because I didn't want to go back upstairs and risk waking my family, so I have a little blister, but nothing too terrible. I wish I had some big revelation to have completed 100 runs this year, but I don't I just keep running and, when the next 100 come around, maybe I'll have something better to say. Haha!

Run 99/Week 25 Recap

Run 98

Really tried to work on pacing to see if I could stay steady. I realized how poor a job I do at that, now that I have a Nike+ system with which to pace/time/distance myself. Like I said before, it's not perfect at the pace/distance thing because it measures my steps rather than using GPS mapping and, if I take shorter or longer steps on any given run, it will vary. Still, I tried to keep it around a certain time. I shot for somewhere between 7:30 and 7:45 minutes per mile, with the idea that I'll probably try for between 8:15 and 8:30 per mile when I run the marathon. Not too bad today, but we'll see on a longer distance run.

Run 94

I am working late tonight, but had some time in the afternoon to get a run in. Supposed to storm tomorrow, so I decided to do a good longer run in while it was beautiful out. My Nike+ is dialed in a little better and was only off by .06 miles, which is pretty good considering the distance, I guess. I'll keep calibrating, but this one is pretty good, I think. Was warmer than I am used to, so that slowed me down more than I expected, but it felt good to just get a good sweat in.

Run 89

I went with my daughter in the stroller. It was a little chilly today, which made for a pleasant run. Not too hot, which is always nice. Also, I'm doing a little "fruit cleanse", which I do about once a summer, so I didn't have the gitty up I usually do on my run. I only eat fruit for 3 days. Eat as much as you want, but only eat fruit. It feels great afterward as you detox a bit.
