Took my daughter in her stroller again today. It's good strength training, I suppose. It was beautiful and it's fun to be outside for a while. I was going to go a little longer, but she was starting to get antsy around the time when I would need to make a decision to go on or go home.

Run 68/Week 17 Recap

A much better run than last Saturday. I tried out a peanut butter and honey sandwich cut in quarters and it seemed to work better than my homemade energy bars, mostly because I could eat them much easier on the run. Not as dense with some good sugar from the honey. A cut over a minute off my time and felt much better, although I'm still pretty tired (obviously). A buddy of mine who runs marathons told me this week that if I can run this far that I will be able to do a marathon, but I'd like to finish strong, not just roll the last few miles.

My daughter and I decided to enjoy the beautiful afternoon and go together. By "my daughter and I", I mean, I put her in the stroller and ran. It was hard. My legs were reminded what it was like to run when I was over 200 pounds and they didn't like it.

Run 63/Week 16 Recap

I ran the furthest I've ever run. 16 miles feels MUCH longer than the 14 I ran last weekend. It's just a learning process and pacing. I had a wind from the SSE, so it felt like a head wind both ways. I did get a fun experience of talking with some cyclists who rode past me and held back to talk. We talked about running and cycling and I brought up my Charity: Water project. One of them said that he used to travel to West Africa to repair wells! Wow! How cool!

This week, I ran in some crazy weather. On Sunday, I ran just in shorts and a compression tank. On Friday, I ran in snow. Crazy. I am really enjoying the experience of running, but I am looking forward to when I can just run in shorts and a t-shirt. I registered for a marathon on July 20th, which I'm excited about, and I'm planning on one on October 13th, as well as maybe a 10k in August. A busy summer planned, if the weather ever decides to be summer! Haha!

Run 61

As though I didn't learn from last week, I passed up a decent running time because I thought I heard rain. Went back to sleep and, when I came downstairs, I saw a dry road. So I packed a bag and ran over my lunch hour. In the wet. In the wind. Dumb.

I should mention that I've been a little shaken from hearing about the Boston Marathon bombing, but I've decided that, as a friend of my said, "[my] running is my prayer" for the people of that city. I am confused by the event, but I refuse to believe that God will waste such suffering and let evil in the world, and in all of us, go unchecked.

A great run! I'm down at my in-laws for an appointment tomorrow and, despite the crazy weather we've been having, it's 70 degree and sunny. I ended up just running in shorts and a compression tank because I wasn't thinking it would ever get this warm today. Ran through the Wapsipinicon State Park.

Run 59/Week 15 Recap

At the start, this run was really annoying. I have a new hydration belt from my in-laws for my birthday, but there must be a learning curve on getting a sweet spot when all 4 10-ounce bottles are full. I felt like I spent the first 10 minutes trying to pull my sweats up, my shirt down, and trying to find a spot where my belt would actually stay between my ribs and my mid-thigh. I finally started to get it figured out, although I had to tighten it up every 5 minutes or so until the back 2 bottles were empty. Although it was a pain at first, I'm thinking that if I had been able to wear running shorts and only one layer on top, it would be better. I'll only be using it on long runs. I did feel better physically with the addition of easily accessed water and nutrition despite the frustration. I was debating taking a minute or a minute and a half off my total time to account for all the stopping I had to do between the belt, traffic, and rocks in my shoe, but I did not. I'm taking the high road.

We had some crazy weather this week, which made me hesistate to run, but I still did it and knowing that I have at least a little self-discipline can help me stay disciplined in other areas of my life. That's what I'm hoping for, anyway. I had to abandon my June 8th Marathon to Marathon due to that being a crazy weekend, but I'll be doing the Dam to Dam on June 1st. We'll already be in Des Moines for something, so that will be fun. It's a 20k instead of a full marathon, so it's about 12.4 miles. I'm below 800 miles to go now!

Run 57

I thought it was icy today, so I didn't think I could safely run this morning. Turns out I could have, despite the weather report, because the roads, although wet, were not icy at all. So, I packed a bag and ran over my lunch. It was cool to run on a new trail. Cedar Falls has a really nice bike trail all over the city.

Run 56

Took Maren out again in her stroller. It was really fun. I think she likes it outside and I know she can relax outside. Want to know how I know that? Because she fell asleep about halfway through. Now I'm home and hoping she gets a little more than 20 minutes of sleep this morning. Maybe not my best timing to start a run ever, but my best time with a stroller. Running with the stroller helps me work on my form a bit. I have to make sure I don't stride forward too far because then I hit the stroller. Short, quick steps with a good follow through.
